Amish Rolled Oats Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1¼ cups boiling water
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • 5 tbsp oleo
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup milk

Directions

  1. Mix oats and boiling water; let stand 20 minutes.
  2. Cream together shortening, sugar, eggs, vanilla and add cooled oats with dry ingredients.
  3. Pour into an 8" x 8" pan.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.
