NAAN

Ingredients

  • Sift together 500 g (1 lb) flour|plain flour,
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder,
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda|bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Add 1 beaten egg,
  • 1 tablespoon melted ghee or butter,
  • 1/2 cup (125 g) yogurt|yoghurt
  • gradually add 1 cup (250 ml) milk or enough to form a soft dough

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to moderately hot, 200 C (400 F).
  2. Cover with a damp cloth and leave in a warm place for 2 hours.
  3. Knead on a well-floured surface for 2-3 minutes, or until smooth.
  4. Divide into 8 portions and roll each one into a oval 15 cm (6 inches) long.
  5. Brush with water and place, wet-side-down, on greased baking trays.
  6. Brush with melted ghee or butter and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown. Makes 8.
