Warm Brie with Baked Apples

Recipe Description

Melting brie with the best baked apples you can make is an enjoyable gourmet snack.

Ingredients

  • 4 large Granny Smith apples
  • 2 tbsp butter|unsalted butter
  • 1 large wheel brie, unripe
  • 1 medium onion
  • ½ cup raisins
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar|sugar
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ? cup almond#sliced almonds|sliced almonds -- lightly toasted
  • ½ cup grapes -- sliced in half
  • 1 loaf crusty bread -- sliced

Directions

  1. Peel, quarter and slice apples.
  2. Sprinkle the apples with lemon juice to prevent discoloring; set aside.
  3. Melt butter over medium heat in a large saucepan.
  4. Chop the onion.
  5. Add onions and sauté until lightly brown and caramelized.
  6. Remove from pan to a plate; set aside.
  7. Add honey and granulated sugar|sugar to pan and stir until it has liquified.
  8. Add apples and continue stirring until apples are almost cooked.
  9. Add grapes and raisins.
  10. Continue cooking until granulated sugar|sugar has caramelized.
  11. Pour the apple mixture into a 2 quart ceramic souffle dish or other ovenproof dish.
  12. Sprinkle with the toasted almonds.
  13. Cut brie into 1" chunks and spread evenly over the apple mixture.
  14. Bake uncovered at 400°F for 12-15 minutes or until cheese has melted and turned lightly golden.
