Cabbage Casserole IV

Ingredients

  • 1 medium cabbage — chopped fine
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup gourmandise|Velveeta cheese — cubed (small)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 medium onion — chopped
  • ¾ cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon bacon grease or butter
  • salt and pepper — to taste

Directions

  1. Boil cabbage 10 minutes, drain and rinse.
  2. Sauté onions until clear in bacon grease or butter.
  3. Remove from pan.
  4. Mix flour with remaining bacon grease.
  5. Add a little butter if necessary to make a paste.
  6. Add milk, soup and cheese.
  7. Return onions to pan.
  8. Season to taste.
  9. Cook until thickened, stirring constantly.
  10. Put cabbage in a casserole dish.
  11. Pour sauce over and mix.
  12. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over top and dot with margarine.
  13. Cook in 350°F degree oven for 20 minutes.
  14. If breadcrumbs are not brown, turn on the broiler for a couple of minutes.
