Varaan Bhaat

Ingredients

  • 4 - 5 tsp peanut oil|ground nut oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 5 - 6 curry leaf|curry leaves
  • 3 chopped garlic
  • 2 - 3 slit chile peppers|green chillies
  • 1 small piece ginger
  • ==
  • toor dal|toor / Ahrar dal
  • ½ grated coconut
  • 3 - 4 garlic
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp ground turmeric|turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp cilantro|coriander leaves
  • salt to taste
  • ½ cup water

Directions

  1. Prepare a paste of coconut, garlic and cumin seeds and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in pan.
  3. Prepare a tadka of mustard and cumin seeds, curry leaf|curry leaves, slit green chillies, garlic and ginger.
  4. Now add the coconut paste to the pan along with turmeric powder, and salt.
  5. Sauté for 5 minutes till the tadka turns red.
  6. Add pre-boiled dal and water.
  7. Wait for one boil.
  8. Vaaran is ready.
  9. Garnish with coriander and serve with rice.
