Gehaktbrood (Dutch Meatloaf)

Recipe Description

Dutch Meatloaf is a staple ingredient in many meals, although nowadays it has mostly been replaced by Dutch Meat balls. Beef is often replaced by Pork, but the following recipe is for "half om half", or half Beef and half Pork.

Ingredients

  • 500gr ground Beef
  • 500gr ground Pork
  • 2 medium potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg, to taste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons parsley flakes
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper or white pepper

Directions

Chop skinned potatoes into small pieces and boil until soft.

Pre-heat oven to 180C.

Place in bowl and mash the potatoes.

Add all other ingredients and knead with hands until mixed.

Mold into an ungreased 9x13x2 pan and bake for 1 hour.

Loaf will pull away from sides of pan and be surrounded by fat from the meat (more or less depending on the fat content of the meat you used).

Cut into slices and serve with potatoes and vegetables.
