Sure, you can buy fancy contraptions that make frozen margaritas for you, or you can go the pre-mixed bottled route. But let’s be honest—neither of those are as good as a shaken margarita.

In today’s episode of Good Eats, Alton Brown plays mixologist and shows us how to whip up the perfect margarita to quench your summer heat wave thirst.

You need just a few ingredients and a little elbow grease, but trust me, it’s worth it. What comes out of that cocktail shaker is pure citrus goodness that will have you shaking for more!

To fancy things up, Alton Brown serves his margarita in a cocktail glass. You can also double up the recipe and pour it over ice into a tumbler, or throw it into the blender with to make a nice slushy drink with the same effect!

Alton’s Perfect Margarita Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces 100 perfect agave silver/ blanco tequila
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 4 lines, divided
  • ½ small Valencia orange
  • 2 tablespoons light agave nectar
  • ¾ cup ice cubes
